CapMin’s Pastor Matt Goodsell Raised Up Public Servants at Missouri Day of Prayer
As Missouri political leaders encouraged citizens to pray for their state and nation during Missouri’s Day of Prayer, CapMin’s Pastor Matt Goodsell prayed for them.
Pastor Goodsell, who leads a weekly discipleship Bible-study based ministry to state political leaders and staff in the Missouri State Capitol Building, was invited to pray over the state’s elected and appointed public servants.
Some 100 people gathered in the State Capitol’s Rotunda earlier this year to pray with leaders including Gov. Mike Parson, Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, and his father, former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. The event was also observed nationally and in states across the nation.
The observation was both reverent and joyful. In addition to the inspirational words of the speakers, the gathering sang, “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” and “God bless America.”
Pastor Goodsell was invited to pray for Gov. Parson and members of the state government by Don Hinkle, editor of the publication Pathway, the 4th largest paid circulation paper in Missouri. Pastor Goodsell is also lead pastor at the Ashland Baptist Church.
Pastor Goodsell prayed that God would anoint Gov. Parson as leader of the executive branch, for God’s protection, that He would grant wisdom, and that the governor’s will would align with God’s “supreme perfect will.”
For other public servants, Pastor Goodsell prayed for the light of truth and honor, for continued diligent service and sacrifice, for unyielding desire to be a blessing to the people of Missouri, and acknowledgement to God’s absolute sovereignty over all creation.
“We pray that Your Love, oh God found in Christ alone, would be central to their decision making,” he prayed. To view Pastor Goodsell’s entire prayer, click here.
He concluded: “Dear Heavenly Father, grant these you have placed in political influence before us today to be filled with all knowledge to successfully govern, the sound understanding of current issues, and the wisdom to proceed under Your supreme governance. In JESUS’ Name, AMEN.”
Pastor Goodsell said he was honored and privileged to be invited to pray for the leaders of his state.
