Pastor With a Heart for Public Servants Learns CapMin is the Answer to His Prayers for Them!
A Florida pastor whose heart breaks for public servants prayed to God for a ministry that would disciple them and was thrilled to learn that Capitol Ministries was founded for exactly that purpose!
“The pastor said he didn’t know whether it was just wishful thinking on his part or whether God was actually prompting him and preparing his heart,” said Slavik Rymskyi, who represented CapMin at the Salem Pastor Appreciation Day conference in Orlando, Florida recently. “But he said he was praying that God would raise up a ministry for public servants.”
The pastor was excited to learn that Capitol Ministries goes into the halls of government to evangelize public servants who do not know God, lead weekly in-depth exegetical Bible studies for them, and disciple them to maturity in the faith.
The pastor spent time talking with Dan Marshall, CapMin Regional Director for Local Government Ministries who explained that CapMin was established in 1996 with the mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ in the political arena throughout the world.
So far ministries have been established to benefit legislators in 43 states, for representatives and senators in Washington, D.C., and to national, provincial, and local leaders in 60 foreign nations.
“I do believe the conversation he had with Dan captured his heart,” said Slavik who serves as CapMin’s volunteer Global Director for Eastern and Western Europe.
The men manned the CapMin booth at the pastor appreciation event that was held at CrossLife Church in Oviedo, Florida on Oct. 19. All year long, CapMin has been participating in the 19 Pastor Appreciation Days that the Christian broadcasting giant, Salem Media Group is hosting in association with their owned and operated local radio station affiliates
We are also participating in the state and national meetings of the Southern Baptist Convention and Independent Baptist Convention.
Our objective is to partner with churches and individuals to establish discipleship Bible studies to city and county public servants in the 40,000 incorporated neighborhoods across America through our Local Government Ministries initiative. CapMin provides the curriculum, the training, ongoing support all at no cost.
So far the response has been tremendous. More than 600 men have requested information about establishing ministries to political leaders who serve in their neighborhoods and we are in the process of vetting them.
Nearly 100 people participated in the Orlando conference, and we identified several strong leads from those who filled out cards requesting information on how to begin a ministry to local leaders.
One woman was given a set of Oaks in Office: Biblical Essays for Political Leaders (OIO), which is the curriculum for LGM Bible studies. Excited by our mission, she intends to spread the word about CapMin by taking the books to local churches and sharing the LGM curriculum that we are teaching to public servants.
The in-depth Bible studies in OIO were written specifically to address the faith needs, both professional and personal, of public servants. Some studies also address contemporary issues through the lens of Scripture such as abortion, illegal immigration, and the religion of environmentalism.
“Most participants were not aware of who we are nor what we do,” Dan said. “This event was an effective way to introduce people to CapMin.”
By participating in the events CapMin is able to reach like-minded Christians. The keynote speaker in Orlando was Pastor Paul Blair who encourages his church to be involved politically.
“His keynote message could have been written by Ralph,” Dan said. “He was one of the few people I spoke with who had some knowledge of our ministry. Two members of the church staff who came by our booth were excited to know that we were engaged in discipling governing officials and wanted to know more about how we did it.”
Dan added that many in the gathering were greatly impacted by the message given by Ralph Drollinger, President and Founder of CapMin, who, in a pre-recorded video shown at the start of the event, explained our mission and challenged churches, church leaders, and lay pastors to partner with CapMin to establish LGMs in their neighborhoods.
“A Salem Radio staff member came by our booth and said, ‘That’s one of the best video presentations that I have ever seen. It explains your mission in a concise and engaging way.’
“Coming from a man who makes his living in media, I took this as a significant compliment to the ministry and those who produced the video,” Dan said.
“This event offered a good opportunity to ignite local pastors with our mission to serve public servants in city halls. For many who came up to our booth this ministry was an eye-opening and intriguing initiative.”
