Congressman Franks’ passionate house floor speech moves voters to pass his unborn child protection bill!

Calling late-term abortions of unborn babies who feel pain “inhumane” and the greatest U.S. human rights atrocity today, Congressman Trent Franks pleaded with colleagues to open their eyes and their souls and “remember that protecting those who cannot protect themselves is why we are all here.”

His voice sometimes cracking with emotion, Congressman Franks delivered a passionate house floor speech that preceded a vote on his unborn child protection bill, saying that while they feel pain, “We have given these little babies less legal protection from unnecessary cruelty than the protection we have given farm animals under the Federal Humane Slaughter Act.”

Every year 18,000 fully-formed babies are aborted on demand, “without anesthesia or protection of any kind in the land of the free and the home of the brave and it is the greatest human rights atrocity in the United States today,” he said.

After his speech, The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act that would restrict abortions after the fifth month of pregnancy was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in a 242-184 vote. The bill, which now moves to the Senate, was approved on Wednesday, May 13, the second anniversary of the conviction of Pennsylvania abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who was found guilty of murdering infants who were born alive during abortion procedures, and of negligence in the death of an abortion patient.

The passage of the bill follows a recent New York Times article about a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that found more very premature babies are surviving outside the womb with fewer health problems due to medical advances.

Congressman Franks said protecting babies who feel pain in abortions is not a Republican or Democrat issue but one of basic humanity that all humane Americans will support if they truly understand it. Recalling the words of a founding father, Congressman Franks said protecting the defenseless is the highest form of government.

“Thomas Jefferson, whose words marked the beginning of this nation said, quote: ‘The care of human life and its happiness and not its destruction, is the chief and only object of good government.’

“For the sake of all those who founded this nation and dreamed of what America could someday be and for the sake all of those since then who died in darkness so America can walk in the light of freedom, it is so very important for those of us who are privileged to be members of this congress to pause from time to time and remind ourselves of why we are really all here.”
