Splendid Beginning—New Global Director Alberty Reyes Recruits Ministry Leaders to Launch New Bible Studies in 4 Caribbean Nations
With a heart for the outcast and a vision of a world influenced by God’s tenets, Alberty Reyes has been named Capitol Ministries Caribbean global director to establish Bible-study based ministries to public servants on Island nations.
A passion for reaching public servants for Christ was kindled in Alberty 10 years ago when he participated in a conference and heard the president of Honduras and two mayors speak. “Listening to their stories, God ignited a spark in my heart to reach public servants with His Word,” Alberty said.
“I am from the Dominican Republic, the only nation that has a flag with a shield and a Bible open to John 8:32 which says, ‘Y la verdad nos hara libre,’ which in English means, ‘You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.’”
“Politicians in D.R. know the quote, but corruption, deceitfulness and lying are deeply rooted in our culture,” he said.
“Imagine if public servants live this principle, how much change and relief would be possible in my country. Imagine all nations living God’s principles, we could definitely have His kingdom come and His will be done on Earth as it is in heaven.”
Since assuming the position in January, Alberty has already recruited four ministry leader candidates to lead discipleship ministries in Caribbean island nations. The new candidates are participating in the Capitol Ministries Recruiting and Training conference currently being held, Oct. 28-Nov. 1 in Bogota, Colombia. After completing the required training, the candidates will be certified as ministry leaders and may establish ministries.
We learned about Alberty from Oscar Zamora, CapMin’s Latin America global director, who knew of him when they both worked with the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit.
Alberty is well networked in most of the 24 island nations and has evangelistic gifting and proven leadership skills. He speaks fluent English and Spanish.
Alberty is currently completing studies at law school in the Dominican Republic, where his father served as a Supreme Court judge. From 2004-2006, Alberty had an internship in evangelism and service programming/production at Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago. He earned a degree in software engineering in 2006, and a degree in public speaking in 2010.
Alberty has served in many capacities at Iglesia Comunitaria Cristiana including leading youth groups and adult small groups, and for the past six years he has preached sermons in church. Alberty and his wife, Dr. Ingrid Mendez, are the parents of Daila, 12, and Isaac, 9.
Alberty said he is excited to work with Capitol Ministries and help fulfill the Great Commission by reaching the most influential people in the world. Because of their platforms, these leaders can reach so many others for Christ.
“I have always had a heart for the outcast,” Alberty said. “My passion is for the non-believer. I would love to see political leaders being saved in all the Caribbean.
“My deep desire is to see changes in our nations, and that can only come by people knowing Jesus Christ and following Him. May God cross our path with leaders that He has been preparing and challenging to have a deeper relationship with Him.”
