I attended the Capitol Ministries Bible study in Sacramento for years while in the California State Senate and now that I am in Congress, I attend the Members Bible Study.

I believe it’s important for lawmakers to be involved in a serious Bible study. Faith is important, especially when you are away from home, your community, and your family and you are being pulled in many different directions. You are also making decisions that will affect generations to come. Having Scripture you can rely on keeps you grounded and balanced and gives you a biblical foundation upon which to make those decisions.

I think it is important for Capitol Ministries to plant Bible studies in all 50 states. Those state leaders eventually become national leaders and starting out with Capitol Ministries Bible studies while in state government will give lawmakers a vital foundation as well as a scriptural basis on which to make good decisions. I look forward to the day when we see Capitol Ministries Bible studies in all the city and county offices in our nation as well.

As Christians, we sort of take biblical precepts and doctrines for granted, but when the issues are broken out in specific chapters like Ralph has done in Oaks in Office, they become very clear and very real.

This first group was pretty excited about this study and will be sharing their story with city and county commissioners around the country. Who knows where God will take this?
