A Foundation of Prayer for the Arkansas Legislature
July 2014
Jim Lagrone, D. Min., has spent the past three months praying and preparing to minister to the 100 Representatives and 35 Senators in the Arkansas Legislature. As a new Ministry Leader, Dr. Lagrone is building a prayer foundation of strong Christians through a council of seven biblically-based churches of different denominations that he is working to bring together.
Seasoned in ministry, Dr. Lagrone has led four different congregations and has nearly four decades of experience as a pastor. He earned his Doctor of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, and served two terms as President of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.
“The mission needs to be church-centered,” Dr. Lagrone said. “This is like being a missionary to the state Capitol in some ways and a prayer foundation is essential. It doesn’t matter how good, how exciting, or how successful the world thinks you are, without God’s blessing, you can do nothing. So the goal is to get the faith community involved. People must be praying against spiritual warfare and for the protection of those in leadership. We have a spiritual enemy and the best weapon to use in battle against a spiritual enemy is prayer.
