Among Bible Studies on Capitol Hill, Capitol Ministries’ “Stand Out” Says Billy Graham’s Decision Magazine
Capitol Ministries’ Washington, D.C. Bible studies “stand out” on Capitol Hill, says a story in Decision Magazine, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s monthly publication that features hard-hitting stories from an evangelical Christian perspective.
The story, “Creating Change, Inside the Beltway and Beyond,” is featured in the September issue of Decision Magazine which is dedicated to examining the Bible and its impact.
The story was written by Decision editor Bob Paulson and discusses a number of Bible studies and prayer groups that organizations offer to national leaders.
About Capitol Ministries, Paulson writes, “…one stands out for its unconditional commitment to in-depth study of the Scriptures and an audacious, worldwide goal: ‘to deliver the Gospel to every public servant, in every capitol, every year.’
“Capitol Ministries, founded by Ralph Drollinger, leads weekly Bible studies for both houses of Congress, and another at the White House on Wednesday mornings that is sponsored by several members of President Trump’s Cabinet.
“Predictably, atheist groups are complaining, but Cabinet members who attend the Bible study find it invaluable.”
“We don’t shy away from the big issues, and we’ll try to exposit them. We won’t ever tell a member how to vote, because we don’t want to be political activists. But we’ll tell them what the Bible says.”
Among those Paulson interviewed for the story was Secretary of Energy Rick Perry.
“I look forward to Wednesday mornings,” Secretary Perry was quoted as saying in the story. “I know when I walk out of there, I’m going to be edified in some way that I wasn’t before.”
Secretary Perry also told Decision Magazine that studying the Bible with fellow Cabinet members is like an oasis in the noisy, chaotic world of Washington, D.C.
The story also noted that Capitol Ministries had planted 40 Bible studies in U.S. state capitals, and had just launched CivicReach®, a discipleship ministry to reach local leaders at the 40,000 incorporated city and county governments across the nation.
World-wide, Capitol Ministries has a goal of planting 200 discipleship ministries in 200 nations in the coming years and has already established 24 ministries in foreign federal capitals, the story said.
Drollinger was quoted as saying that teaching one chapter of the Bible at a time, verse by verse, is crucial for true discipleship.
Drollinger also hand delivers topical Bible studies to political leaders that examine current issues, such as King Solomon’s take on the U.S. national debt and the Remedy for Racism, through a Biblical perspective.
“We’ll take on the big, difficult issues and try to give exegetical basis,” Drollinger told Decision Magazine. “Like, what does the Bible say about immigration? Or, what does the Bible say about abortion? Or, what does the Bible say about homosexuality?
“We don’t shy away from the big issues, and we’ll try to exposit them. We won’t ever tell a member how to vote, because we don’t want to be political activists. But we’ll tell them what the Bible says.”
