In the Senate Bible study, we drill down pretty deep. We spend weeks on end if not on a single verse, then on a single chapter, and several weeks on a specific passage to begin to understand intellectually. We, as politicians are naturally intellectually curious, and so to be able to apply that to Scripture with the benefit of good teaching, and the additional benefit of collective wisdom of the participants is very rich. The Bible study also allows us to drill down on theology and doctrine and application of Scripture. Perhaps the most important thing at the end of the day is that we have a source of encouragement, and a source of direction and a source of correction that is really important to the decisions we make as individuals and as an institution.

As Christians, we sort of take biblical precepts and doctrines for granted, but when the issues are broken out in specific chapters like Ralph has done in Oaks in Office, they become very clear and very real.

This first group was pretty excited about this study and will be sharing their story with city and county commissioners around the country. Who knows where God will take this?
