Believers Invite Apostasy! The National Prayer Breakfast’s Fatal Flaw

Dear Friend,

My heart is heavy. As you are probably aware, the President of the United States attacked Christians at the recent National Prayer Breakfast. In addressing Islamic extremism and violence, Barack Obama said:

“Unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. And our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was (sic) justified in the name of Christ.”

The President had to reach back seven centuries for an example of Christian violence, which most historians agree was in response to years of Muslim attacks and land stealing. Nor did he mention that Jesus taught peace, love, and forgiveness while Mohammad was a warrior and killed many innocent people.

One thing is for sure, what believers did 724 years ago during the Crusades was in disobedience to the Scriptures. But what Muslims are doing today is in obedience to the Koran.

The two religions are not the same.

What is equally or even more disheartening is why professing believers of Jesus Christ organize the Prayer Breakfast and then abdicate the microphone to members of other religions to praise and pray to other gods.

Additionally, officiates of other religions were introduced at the Prayer Breakfast as “Your Holiness…” There is only one Holy God (John 14:6).

I reason that if you can’t fill the room apart from the President or Governor speaking, then as believers, we shouldn’t host the event. As ambassadors for Christ, we have to be clear about the true gospel and not present things that simply confuse non-believers in the room. For this reason I have chosen not to attend the National Prayer Breakfast or the California Prayer Breakfast. Jesus is not honored by religious syncretism — which is the fusion of dissimilar and conflicting religious beliefs and practices — made all the worse when His called-out ones sponsor such events!
