Bible studies in the Wyoming State Capitol begin January 2015!
August 2014
When the Sunnyside Baptist Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming learned of Capitol Ministries’ mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ in the political arena, the congregation prayed about how to become involved.
Ralph Drollinger, founder and president of Capitol Ministries, had spoken at the church after inviting its pastor, Max Janzen, to become a Ministry Leader to the Wyoming Legislature.
After much prayer, the congregation determined that God was in the effort. They agreed to share Pastor Janzen and allow him time to hold Bible studies at the State Capitol for Constitutional Officers and Public Servants, and to support his efforts through prayer.
“My church sees this as an investment in our nation,” Pastor Janzen said.
As one of Capitol Ministries newest Ministry Leaders, Pastor Janzen is preparing to begin Bible studies in the State Capitol in January 2015, and he has seen the hand of God go before him. Through unrelated events, Pastor Janzen has built strong relationships with several people who work in the Capitol, including some Constitutional Officers.
“Already, through the grace of God, I have these good relationships,” Pastor Janzen said. “God afforded ahead of time for them to know me as a person.”
Pastor Janzen has begun preparation for the first three Bible studies. The first two are “How to relate to a culture that wants to influence Public Servants,” and, “How to relate to a culture that Public Servants need to influence.” Those studies will examine the influences in the lives of Biblical giants such as Joseph, Daniel, Solomon, David, and the sons of Israel. The third Bible study will focus on the Beatitudes.
“And it’s all from God’s word,” Pastor Janzen said. “I didn’t write any of it. I’m just pulling information out of His pages.”
Pastor Janzen said his ultimate goal is to fulfill the mission of Capitol Ministries.
“When I went for training, Ralph said his desire has two prongs: That our nation’s leaders would grow taste buds for God’s word and that they would walk away with some conviction,” Pastor Janzen said. “If that can happen, and those convictions come from God’s word rather than personal feelings, we will see the same kind of leadership that we had at the inception of this nation. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? It would be phenomenal.”
Pastor Janzen is pastor of the Sunnyside Baptist Church. He earned an undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University in Humanities with a German minor, and a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to Lynne and the couple has two boys, Jarret, 24 and Cole, 20.
