Capitol Ministries Bible Studies Remain a Priority on Senator Ted Budd’s Busy Schedule

For U.S. Senator Ted Budd, the demands of public service make it all the more important to remain faithful to the fundamentals of the Christian life: Bible study, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. Those priorities are reflected in his commitment to the Capitol Ministries weekly Bible study, which he makes an effort to attend whenever his Senate schedule allows.
“It is always on my calendar, and I make it at every opportunity,” Budd says.
His appreciation for Capitol Ministries reaches back long before his service in Congress. In the early 2000s, Budd attended a Council for National Policy gathering with his wife, Amy Kate, where he first heard Capitol Ministries founder Ralph Drollinger speak. He remembers being “enamored with Ralph Drollinger speaking,” although it would be approximately 15 years before the two would reconnect and get to know one another through CapMin.
Today, Budd expresses gratitude for the CapMin ministry team, including Randy and Paula Adams whom he enjoys seeing at the weekly gatherings. These weekly Bible Studies provide an opportunity to spend time with fellow believers amid the competing demands of public office.
Budd believes maintaining spiritual disciplines is essential for Christians serving in government. While acknowledging that he does not practice them perfectly, he emphasizes the importance of remaining consistent. “I don’t claim perfection, but I do claim the attempt just to maintain the daily disciplines,” he says.
“Even in these unique roles, you still have to do the basics,” Budd explains. Those basics include both nurturing important relationships and remaining connected to God through spiritual disciplines. He believes public servants must not allow the demands of political life to displace the relationships and practices that sustain their faith.
For Budd, the opportunity to gather with other believers through Capitol Ministries fits naturally into that commitment. The weekly study offers a meaningful opportunity to remain connected to Christian fellowship and biblical teaching while carrying out the responsibilities of public office.
His message to fellow public servants is a reminder that faithful service begins with remaining close to the Lord. As Budd explains, “If God has put you here, He’s certainly the one that will empower you to do it.”
