Merry Christmas to You and Yours!
Danielle and I will be visiting the Capital of Barbados today. Yesterday we met with Sharron Montoute, pictured here with one of her colleagues. She is the assistant to the President of the Senate, the Honorable Andy Daniel, of the island nation of St. Lucia. Likened to all of the countries we have been visiting in the Caribbean this past week (there are 24 separate countries in the Caribbean), Sharron expressed how wide-open they are to a Bible teacher/pastor/ministry amongst their governmental leaders.
Every nation needs a ministry in its capital!
When a skilled Bible teacher unleashes God’s Word every week to the leaders of a nation, it is amazing what can happen! Such can turn a nation around because God honors His Word.
The writer of Hebrews states, “The Word of God is living and active and sharper than a two-edged sword….” (Hebrews 4:12). Jeremiah states in his book (23:29) “Is not my Word like fire?” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock?” There is no doubt about the positive effect the Word can have on a nation because it is the actual essence of God Himself coming to bear on the hearts of individuals (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
What’s even more amazing to me — and has really stuck out to me in my personal study and prayer times of late — is that the positive manifestations of God’s Word on a nation are not dependent on a majority of the nation’s leaders coming to Bible study! No, not at all!
Let me explain. Most recently in our White House Cabinet, U.S. Senate, and House Member Bible studies in D.C., we have been studying Matthew 7:13-14. There are four simple contrasts in this passage, and one of those contrasts pertains to what I am saying here. Jesus says, “few (mikros) are those who find it” in reference to the quantity of people who “enter through the narrow gate” (faith alone in Christ) and inherit eternal life — those who are truly saved and walking with Him.
This truth — there being few — must be understood in relation to and as the backdrop of, the great promise of 1 Timothy 2:2 which begins with “in order that” (what is known as a hina clause in the Greek). What precedes “in order that” in 1 Timothy 2:1, is the utmost priority (protos) of believers evangelizing and discipling “kings and those who are in authority” (cf. 1 Timothy 2:4). If believers are about that, the hina clause promises “that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life” in the here and now. That’s to say this: If believers prioritize evangelizing kings and those who are in authority, we will “lead a tranquil and quiet life” in our nation — but my point is this: it only requires a few to make this promise a reality!
In fact, Paul states specifically in 1 Corinthians 1:26 that not many mighty, not many noble (a reference to political leaders) will indeed come to Christ.
It only takes a few political leaders who are growing in God’s Word to make a tremendous difference in a nation!
I was praising the Lord yesterday when Dr. Ben Carson opened President Trump’s Cabinet meeting with a long, thorough, Christ-centered prayer in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! My heart leaped with joy as we had just talked about (in the White House Cabinet Member Bible study) how elected and appointed leaders could pray in Jesus’s name without saying the name “Jesus” (since that is deemed as so offensive and inappropriate today). My comment to all was — just use another one of His many names if people are particularly offended by the name Jesus. And Ben did! Click here to watch this powerful prayer.
I share that as one of many illustrations as to how God’s Word, going forth in our nation’s Capital — if only to a few relative to the hundreds who are elected and appointed to office — is making a huge difference in the tenor and direction of our nation! Did you notice how unified everyone looked when the tax bill was celebrated earlier this week at the White House? When I initially proposed the idea of a White House Cabinet Member Bible study to President Trump, I said that doing so will accomplish three things — and it has: Individual Edification; Organic Unification; and National Symbolization. Praise God for the power of His Word to achieve such things in a country!
I am committed to continuing to teach God’s Word to our nation’s leaders in 2018. As you can see, the proclamation and explication of His Word is making a difference in our nation!
I must not be remiss and fail to include here as well that in my sense of calling in 2018 I will continue to emphasize the absolute necessity of exposing and opposing those who name the name of Christ while promoting the practice of theological syncretism. My reasoning for this emphasis is simple but often overlooked: God condemned His chosen ones in the Old Testament for worshipping other gods. In fact, Israel was delivered over to her archenemies as a result of such. Therefore, it is absolutely a priority that “believers” in no way fall into using the name of Christ to promote an “all roads lead to heaven” type of theology, “Bible study” or event that advances such heresies lest they or those whom they influence get on the bad side of the God of the Bible. None of us want a repeat of what happened to ancient Israel. This my friend, remains a heavy concern on my heart.
So honored by your partnership in ministry this past year. I look forward to the same in 2018 as we see God transform D.C. and our nation via the proclamation of His Word to our nation’s leaders.
Merry Christmas!
