Please Pray for Victims—CA Wildfires Should Not Have Been a Surprise
As wildfires consume portions of Los Angeles taking five lives so far, destroying thousands of homes and property, and causing untold grief and pain, we ask that you join us in prayer for the dear people whose lives will never be the same.
Please pray for God’s protection, His leading, wisdom, love, strength, shelter, safeguard and grace in the lives of all impacted.
We know so many who have lost homes that are close to our ministry.
The very same day our son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Hanna, experienced the joy of having their first baby, they lost access to their home in Alta Dena. All homes on each side of theirs were lost. The smoke damage in their home alone will take months, if ever, to remedy.
They are now living with us, with our new granddaughter, Mila Hope Drollinger. Hanna’s mom and dad are also staying with us, Don and Sharon Segerstrom. Don is a retired judge from Sonora, California and they are a delightful couple.
These fires should not have come as a surprise to government officials, nor should they have been unprepared to deal with them, as they were. Please pray for God’s guidance, wisdom, safety, insight, and instruction for those who are working to extinguish the fire and who will be dealing with the aftermath.
All this incompetence and willful neglect is illustrative of woke ideology disregarding science.
I was one of UCLA’s first Ecosystems majors back in the 1970s and I still remember Dr. Harmut Walter’s lecture on “The Fallacy of Smokey The Bear” (https://geog.ucla.edu/person/hartmut-walter/#research). This excellent lecture focused on science—the real problems, approaches, and scientific remedies to controlled land management. Among the many topics that were addressed, I especially remember the chaparral biome, it must be managed with controlled burnings because fire is part of its cycle of life; certain pod seeds don’t bloom without heat. My point is that that was common knowledge at least 50 years ago!
When you violate science for the sake of your own ideological bias, you end up with fire storms that are totally uncontrollable—especially when you haven’t any water in the fire hydrants due to inappropriate budget reappropriations.
Biblically, the first role of God’s ordination of the institution of civil government is to protect people from evil (Romans 13:1-8). Herein illustrated is what results from public servants being uninformed of, if not rejecting of biblical truth.
Proverbs 29:2 is on display in LA:
When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked person rules, people groan.
Please join us in praying that our Lord would hold close the innocent people whose lives are being devastated by this catastrophe—and convict leadership that is opposed to scriptural truth.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
“Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
Shout for joy, O heavens! And rejoice, O earth!
Break forth into joyful shouting, O mountains!
For the Lord has comforted His people
And will have compassion on His afflicted (Isaiah 49:13).
After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you (1 Peter 5:10).
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you” … “The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:6, 8).
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah (Psalm 46:1-3).
