SCOTUS’ Disastrous Decision: Why Should We Expect Anything Else?

The U.S. Supreme Court ruling to proclaim same-sex marriage the law of the land is a disastrous-but-predictable outcome when we consider that many of our nation’s leaders no longer have a commitment to God’s precepts.

Their capitulation is astounding when you consider the faith and the words of our nation’s founding fathers who wrote the U.S. Constitution based on biblical principles and God’s commands.

Among such notable quotes is one by John Adams, the second president of the United States, who said: “Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . . What a Eutopia — what a Paradise would this region be!”

But that view, while still held by many national leaders, is not the visible one that prevails today, and I believe it is because very little in-depth Bible teaching has been directed to Public Servants. So why should we be surprised by the Supreme Court’s terrible, politicallycharged ruling?

Just think of the different make up the U.S. Supreme Court would have if our past Presidents — the leaders who nominate the Supreme Court Justices — had been discipled in the precepts of God’s Word by a trained, skilled, dedicated Bible teacher to Public Servants?

What a difference it would make in our nation if our Presidents brought every thought and appointment captive to the obedience of Christ!

It is critical that we teach the biblical perspective of social issues and current events to Public Servants so that the decisions they make that affect our nation are sound, moral, and consistent with God’s laws.

Complicating this matter further is that the majority of Christian leaders are not providing any solutions! It is easy to cry over spilled milk, it’s another thing to have a plan to clean it up. A strong exception is Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who called for a constitutional amendment that would reaffirm the states’ ability to define marriage.

But too many others, especially those in pulpits, are silent.

I have little respect for pastors who fail to teach the whole counsel of God.

That is why Capitol Ministries is committed to discipleship and to teaching Public Servants the biblical theology behind current social issues.

Should we expect anything less than what we get from the Supreme Court since we have failed to build effective Bible teaching ministries on the campuses of Public Servants?

Are we not reaping the dreadful harvest of our acute oversight?

Capitol Ministries desires to do something about that by challenging churches across our nation to adopt local government leaders as a priority target for ministry outreach.

We call this CivicReach™ and will be rolling this ministry out in 2016. It will include six elements, enabling believers to reach their local political leaders for Christ: Grounding Training, Connecting, Empowering, Equipping and Resourcing. There are 33,000 local governments in America, all virtually without an outpost for Christ to make disciples.

With God’s direction, we plan to build and maintain 50 effective Bible teaching ministries at all 50 State Capitols, and of course, Washington D.C. where my wife, Danielle, and I lead in-depth weekly Bible studies to Members of the House and Senate.

Until we as believers get serious about discipling our nation’s political leaders — leading them to Christ and teaching them the precepts of Scripture — we should not expect the White House and Supreme Court decisions to be biblically based like they once were when our founding fathers were steeped in Scripture.

Let me close by quoting evangelist David Barton, who states it better than I could:
