U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith Finds Strength and Center in God’s Word
In the demanding political arena of Washington, D.C., where pressure runs high and scrutiny is constant, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has found an unwavering anchor: God’s Word.
A faithful attendee of the Capitol Ministries Senate Bible Study, Senator Hyde-Smith recently shared how the study has profoundly shaped both her personal faith and her service in office.
“We’ve got a pretty tough job,” she remarked, “and to literally be in the Word—it definitely has enriched and solidified me. … It keeps you in your center.”
Senator Hyde-Smith describes the weekly gathering as a support system grounded in Scripture. Senators from both sides of the aisle come together not as political rivals, but as colleagues, wrestling with similar challenges and seeking the same divine guidance.
“We’re all equal in there,” she said. “That shared experience makes it so relatable.”
She sees the study as more than just a time of reflection.
“It’s the fuel that runs the engine,” she said. “When you draw closer to God, He will draw closer to you.”
One recent session focused on the fruit of the Spirit, a timely and convicting reminder of the character traits that every public servant—and every follower of Christ—is called to embody.
“Who doesn’t need to concentrate on love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?” she reflected.
When asked to summarize the Bible study, Senator Hyde-Smith put it this way:
“It’s coming together with colleagues in a spiritually enriching way, grounded in God’s Word, and centered on living out the fruit of the Spirit.”
Senator Hyde-Smith also praised the depth and quality of the studies designed and led by Ralph Drollinger, President and Founder of Capitol Ministries, who teaches each legislative week:
“In my opinion, the quality of the Bible study is unmatched. As we say in there, we don’t water ski—we scuba dive. You’ve got some great intellectual minds in there who come prepared, and it’s just one of the best parts of my week.”
Please continue to pray for our leaders and for the ongoing work of Capitol Ministries. It’s clear that when God’s Word is at the center, hearts are strengthened, unity is fostered, and Christ is glorified—even in the halls of power.
