CapMin Leaders Challenge Detroit-Area Pastors – Let’s work together to Fill the “Missing Mandate in Modern Missions!”
Detroit-area pastors and church leaders learned about and embraced our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ among city and county political leaders in their communities – a ministry objective CapMin is advancing across the nation.
Some 150 church leaders participated in the Pastor Appreciation Day (PAD) event in Detroit on May 9 where a contingent of CapMin leaders told them about the often-overlooked biblical mandate to take the Word of God first to political leaders.
“The event was very inspiring as we were blessed to represent CapMin and share our vision with pastors, their wives, and staff who had never heard of a ministry reaching elected officials in their local communities,” said Dr. Dan DeShong, CapMin’s Local Government Ministries (LGM) global director.
Dr. Dan participated in the Detroit event along with ministry leaders Matt Goodsell, (Missouri), and Gene Sipprell, (Minnesota).
CapMin is the primary national sponsor of the 19 PADs that are being held across the nation by Christian broadcasting giant, Salem Media Group in association with their owned and operated local radio station affiliates.
Teams of CapMin leaders are participating in the events to recruit men to establish discipleship ministries and lead weekly Bible studies to city and county political leaders in their communities. Throughout the year, CapMin will also take that message to participants at Southern Baptist Convention meetings and Independent Baptist conferences.
At the start of all the PADs, Ralph Drollinger speaks to church leaders via a pre-recorded message and explains the CapMin mission and the “missing mandate in modern missions”—a biblical call to the Church to fulfill the Great Commission by giving priority to teaching God’s Word to political leaders.
In Detroit, Dr. Dan, Matt, and Gene manned the CapMin table where they spoke with more than 30 church leaders and distributed CapMin material including Ralph’s in-depth Bible studies that were written specifically for political leaders, ministry brochures, and copies of Ralph’s books.
Gene called the response very positive. Some 23 people filled out cards expressing an interest in establishing a LGM ministry or requesting more information. “This affirmed our call of service to what God is doing to reach our elected officials through CapMin’s discipleship outreach with intentional Bible study,” Gene said.
Dr. Dan agreed, adding, “We had good commitment from several pastors who had been in and out of government positions that felt confident that they could help move this ministry forward.”
Matt called the conversations with pastors “awe-inspiring.”
“As I speak to more and more pastors in various settings all over our nation, I believe there is an undeniable move of the Holy Spirit in the hearts and minds of pastors,” Matt said. “If we are going to formulate a momentous impact for the Kingdom of Christ while seeing significant change in our nation, then making disciples of local government leaders is essential.”
“Pastors serving in a local church have been hit hard the last few years and their need for encouragement is great. At the numerous Pastor Appreciation Day events, CapMin serves to minister to the local pastor in identifying the role they can play in reaching their elected local leaders through an in-depth Bible study and hence fulfilling the will of God in their lives.”
