God’s At Work In The Cowboy State!
January 2015
As they commissioned Max Janzen to become Ministry Leader to Public Servants in the state capitol of Cheyenne, Wyoming, the congregation of the Sunnyside Baptist Church told their pastor: “This is God’s work. Go to it!”
“Then they literally circled me with their hands on me and commissioned me,” Pastor Janzen remembers. “My church sees this as an investment in our nation.”
The congregation and their pastor also see the new ministry to Public Servants in the Cowboy State as an extension of the church’s existing mission to take the Word of God to as many people as possible.
“I’ve already been serving as shepherd to God’s people at Sunnyside Baptist Church in our state capitol, and now, I have the opportunity to take God’s word to those who govern God’s people and disciple them so they have the same life with Christ that God’s people have,” Pastor Janzen said.
“It is important that our church pushes into all the neighborhoods and all parts of our community. They are all connected. The state Capitol is just one more of those areas and it’s vital. God calls us to minister to kings and leaders, those in authority.”
As he works to establish a year-round weekly Bible study for Wyoming Constitutional Officers and elected Public Servants, Pastor Janzen remembers being inspired when Ralph Drollinger, President and Founder of Capitol Ministries, spoke to the congregation last year.
“I really like what Ralph said: ‘We have the opportunity to help our legislators develop taste buds for God’s Word and send them away with a few convictions,'” Pastor Janzen said. “That is what I would like to do.”
