Governor Mike Braun Reflects on the Power of Capitol Ministries Bible Study

Recently, during an interview on the “Good Citizens Podcast,” Governor Mike Braun reflected on how his faith deepened during his years in Washington, D.C., and how Capitol Ministries’ consistent biblical discipleship became a defining influence in his life.
Governor Braun shared that a pivotal moment came during a conversation on the Senate floor with Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota, who encouraged him to attend a Bible study for lawmakers.
At first, Braun hesitated. “The easiest thing there was to say, ‘I’ll think about it,’” he explained.
But before he walked away, another senator from North Dakota quietly joined the conversation.
“He said, ‘Mike, I have been listening. I think you’d really enjoy Bible study.’”
Governor Braun decided to attend.
“That was really the thing I probably looked forward to most for the second half of the Senate term,” he later shared.
For the next three years, Gov. Braun participated in the weekly discipleship ministry led by Capitol Ministries. He described it as the first time he had received formal Bible instruction in such a systematic and practical way.
Today, Governor Braun continues participating in Capitol Ministries Bible studies with governors and Cabinet officials, hosted in Washington, D.C., by U.S. Secretary Brooke Rollins.
One Bible study that especially impacted him focused on the five foundational institutions established by God: marriage, family, the church, government, and commerce.
Reflecting on that teaching, Governor Braun explained:
“So, there’s a purpose for government, but not probably the way we’ve evolved in our own federal government. To me, it put a lot of structure to things I’ve always thought about.”
Governor Braun’s testimony is a reminder that God’s Word changes lives—including the lives of those serving at the highest levels of government. Through consistent, verse-by-verse discipleship, leaders are being strengthened spiritually, grounded biblically, and equipped to view public service through the lens of Scripture.
Please pray for Governor Braun and the many public servants worldwide who participate in Capitol Ministries Bible studies each week. Pray that they would continue growing in wisdom, conviction, and spiritual maturity.
