A Front-Row Seat to God’s Faithfulness
Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson
U.S. Representative, Pennsylvania’s 15th District
When Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson reflects on his sixteen years with Capitol Ministries, he doesn’t begin by talking about Congress.
He talks about God’s providence.
Having participated in the House Members Bible Study since Ralph and Danielle Drollinger first launched the ministry in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, Thompson has witnessed firsthand how God faithfully grows His Kingdom—often through simple acts of obedience and relationships that only He could orchestrate.
“I was very fortunate to connect with Ralph and Danielle from the very beginning,” Thompson recalls. “It’s been amazing to watch how God has brought the right people together and orchestrated those relationships over time.”
One relationship in particular stands out.
Years ago, while hosting the Drollingers in Pennsylvania, Thompson introduced Ralph to a close friend, Jon Cassel. At the time, Cassel was serving in Senegal with the Christian Broadcasting Network. Today, he serves as part of the Capitol Ministries team, helping strengthen Bible-teaching ministries throughout Africa.
Looking back, Thompson sees far more than a chance introduction.
“To me, it was amazing how God orchestrated that,” he says.
Those moments have given him a unique perspective on the ministry. While Capitol Ministries has profoundly strengthened his own walk with Christ, he has also watched God multiply its influence around the world.
“It has meant personal growth and equipping as a disciple of Jesus Christ,” Thompson says. “But it’s also been exciting to find myself in a position where I could help that network expand throughout different parts of the world.”
For Thompson, however, the ministry’s greatest impact begins with Scripture.
Each weekly Bible study provides more than encouragement—it equips leaders to faithfully fulfill the responsibilities God has entrusted to them.
“The studies are Scripture-based and focused in a very practical way on leadership,” he explains. “They help develop that leadership and encourage us to be bold in our faith.”
Serving in Congress presents no shortage of difficult decisions. Thompson says studying God’s Word consistently has prepared him to approach those challenges with biblical conviction rather than political pressure.
“That equipping—that armoring—is so helpful as we take on the difficult issues our nation is facing but do it in a way that is righteous according to God’s Word.”
Thompson is also quick to clarify the purpose of Capitol Ministries. The goal is not to transform government into something it was never intended to be, but to faithfully disciple the men and women God has called to serve within it.
“Capitol Ministries isn’t about creating a theocracy,” he says. “It’s about equipping Christians to serve in one of the institutions God has ordained—and that is the state.”
That biblical understanding has remained with him over the years. In fact, every Capitol Ministries Bible study is still within arm’s reach.
“I keep a copy of every one of the Capitol Ministries weekly Bible studies in my desk,” he says.
Whether addressing issues like abortion, perseverance through pressure, or biblical leadership, Thompson regularly returns to those lessons—not only for personal encouragement but also as resources of scripture within those Bible studies when teaching in churches.
One study, in particular, has left a lasting impression.
Capitol Ministries’ teaching on the institutions ordained by God—the family, the church, commerce, and the state—continues to shape how Thompson thinks about public service.
“It reminds believers to be bold,” he says. “If these are institutions ordained by God, then we are called to be part of them.”
After more than a decade and a half, Thompson remains deeply grateful for the people God has placed around the ministry.
He speaks warmly of Randy and Paula Adams, who faithfully travel each week to lead the House Bible study, creating an atmosphere that is both welcoming and deeply rooted in Scripture.
“It’s refreshing,” Thompson says with a smile. “We break bread together, feed the body, and then feed the soul.”
Looking back over sixteen years, Thompson sees a consistent pattern.
God faithfully uses His Word to strengthen believers. He faithfully opens doors no one could have planned. And He faithfully prepares public servants to represent Him wherever He has called them to serve.
For Congressman Thompson, that has been the enduring testimony of Capitol Ministries from the very beginning.
