Nigeria Leadership

Mike Agbon

Ministry Leader
When Rev. Mike Agbon describes his calling to ministry, he recalls words he believes the Lord placed on his heart: “I give you a seat in the midst of kings, and I put My words in your mouth to speak.” For decades, that calling has led him to minister to people in positions of authority, sharing the Gospel and teaching Scripture in the very places where government decisions are made.

Ordained as a pastor in 1987, Mike began serving through Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, eventually becoming a National Director and helping train Christian leaders. His ministry later brought him into government, where he served as deputy chaplain and then chaplain at Government House Chapel in Yola, Adamawa State, from 2007 to 2017. He also served as Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Religious Affairs.

Mike’s preparation for ministry includes a Bachelor of Theology, postgraduate studies in pastoral education and chaplaincy, and additional training in leadership and religious conflict management. He has also served with the Christian Association of Nigeria and as a resident chaplain at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.

A widower, Mike has four children and six grandchildren.

Today, as Capitol Ministries’ Ministry Leader in Nigeria, Mike is seeing that longstanding calling fulfilled through regular, in-depth Bible studies with members of the National Assembly. CapMin has established biweekly Bible studies in the House of Representatives, an opportunity Mike credits to God’s faithfulness after a period of patiently seeking an opening.

Mike’s vision reaches beyond the National Assembly. With three states already in development and more than 20 prospective locations identified, Mike is working toward establishing Bible studies in state legislatures and eventually local governments throughout Nigeria. Travel expenses and security concerns, including the threat of kidnapping, present significant challenges, but he remains committed to the work.

Another priority is establishing a Bible study in Nigeria’s Senate. Mike has spent years pursuing that opportunity and believes the Lord will open the door in His timing.

“I’m not discouraged at all,” he says. “I just keep looking at the door.”

Mike believes that when political leaders are guided by Scripture and the fear of God, their decisions can become a blessing to the people they serve. He remains confident that the Lord who opened the doors to the House of Representatives will continue to advance the ministry throughout Nigeria.
