Dan DeShong
Global DirectorLocal Government Ministries
With a deep conviction that transformed hearts lead to transformed communities, Dr. Dan brings both passion and precision to his ministry. “Over the past year,” he shares, “I’ve had the privilege of leading elected leaders in the greater Sacramento area through Oaks in Office, a 52-lesson study originally taught to national leaders in Washington, D.C., by Capitol Ministries Founder Ralph Drollinger. It’s been a powerful journey of spiritual growth, where I’ve witnessed a genuine Christian worldview taking root in the hearts and minds of public servants as we plumb the depths of God’s Word together.”
As a retired chiropractor and a Vietnam Veteran, Dr. Dan’s life is marked by a deep desire to serve both spiritually and physically. He and his wife Shirley have been married for 47 years, sharing a lifelong ministry partnership. Together they have two grown children and five grandchildren, and they continue to pour their lives into serving others in need of healing and hope.
Dr. Dan and Shirley have long been involved in leadership with Bible Study Fellowship, where they were further equipped to teach, lead, and grow in their knowledge of God. Their heart for missions has taken them far beyond the United States. Their ministry was extended to the Yangtze River in China—where they shared the Gospel with a Buddhist professor at Shanghai University and monks at the Mt. Jiu Hua temple—as well as to prisons, orphanages, impoverished communities, and churches across Africa, Thailand, Guatemala, and Asia. Dr. Dan has partnered with global ministries such as Lay Witness for Christ and Multiplication Network Ministries, bringing the hope of the Gospel to some of the most spiritually and physically impoverished places in the world.
Service is part of Dr. Dan’s spiritual DNA. He currently serves as Pastoral Director at a housing facility for formerly homeless, disabled veterans—offering them encouragement, care, and the life-giving truth of the Gospel. His military background and compassion uniquely position him to minister to those who have served their country and now need to be served in return.
Dr. Dan holds a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and a doctorate from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, Missouri. He has completed a certificate in evangelism through Perspectives on the World Christian Movement and holds a Special Ministry License with the International Ministerial Fellowship.
In his leadership role at Capitol Ministries, Dr. Dan is helping to advance the vision of equipping thousands of faithful Bible teachers to disciple public servants in local governments nationwide. “Our mission,” he says, “is to reach those in authority with the life-transforming truth of God’s Word. And we’re watching God raise up leaders to carry that vision forward with courage, humility, and conviction.”
