Sen. Boren: Dr. Day’s Bible Study to Oklahoma Legislators Helps Me as a Democrat
“A Bible study in the state capitol is beneficial to public servants who come from all walks of life and who have a personal faith that is grounded on the Bible. It is especially beneficial in a bipartisan way to help us as believers see that our common ground is in our faith.
“Dr. Day’s Bible study helps me personally as a Democrat serving in a super majority [Republican] environment because I can have biblically based private sidebar conversations with people in the Bible study knowing they are open to those conversations as I work through personal issues with my kids and my family.
“Recently in Oklahoma, an elected official made a very bad decision and I was very grief stricken in a spiritual way. I was able to share my feelings of profound disappointment and grief with members of the Bible study in a way I would not have been able to share in a secular environment.
“The Bible talks about how we are supposed to respond when people stumble on their path. That whole spiritual disposition is different from looking at it purely from an HR [Human Resources] violation. It is comforting to have a place to have those conversations with other believers.”
