Nate Belkstrom
LGM Regional Director, MidwestLGM Ministry Leader
Redwood Falls, Minnesota
Nate Belkstrom serves as a Capitol Ministries Midwest Regional Director of Local Government Ministries (LGM) with his friendvand co-director Gene Sipprell. In this role, the men are responsible for recruiting, vetting, and helping to train new Ministry Leaders in the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky. Once candidates have gone through the required training, Nate comes alongside as a mentor to help them be as fruitful as possible in reaching government officials.
Nate served as senior pastor at an evangelical church in Minnesota for 41 years and under his leadership, the church experienced a strong missions emphasis. He attended the Minnesota School of Business and graduated from Christ For The Nations Bible Institute in Dallas, Texas. Nate and his wife, Chris, began mission work in 1995 in Belarus and then went on to Russia, Czech, Slovenia, Lithuania, Poland, Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, and Croatia. With the Lord’s leading, they started a ministry called Victory in the Workplace, which helps people change their lives by changing their workplace experience. The ministry is based upon the principle that all Christians are called. About 2 percent are called to serve full-time in church ministry while the other 98 percent are called to serve Jesus full-time where they work. Working with local churches, the ministry commissions “Marketplace Missionaries” after they go through training. Nate and Chris have two children, Amy and Corey, and two grandchildren, Connor and Hailey. Both children are blessed of the Lord in their marketplace jobs.
Nate is the author of three books that have been published in multiple languages: Victory in the Workplace, You, Your Job and Your Nation and Winning over the Routine of Daily Life. Nate believes the Victory in the Workplace ministry and his ministry with Capitol Ministries complement each other. One is a discipleship ministry for the marketplace, and the other is a discipleship ministry for government officials.
One of Nate’s favorite sayings is, “Expecting an unbeliever to come to church is like expecting a fish to jump into a frying pan in your kitchen.” Unbelievers are not called to go to church. Believers are called to go into the world and reach people where they are.
Capitol Ministries reaches one of the most neglected people groups. A pastor once approached Nate and asked what Capitol Ministries does. When he told the pastor that CapMin reaches out to government officials, the pastor had an “Ah ha” moment. The pastor had no problem believing that the worst drug addict could repent and become a new creation in Christ, but the pastor repented for not believing the same about government officials.
