Kumar Singh Praja
Global Director, AsiaKnowing Jesus is a quality Pastor Praja seeks to embody in every aspect of his life. For almost two years now, he has represented CapMin as a global director, allowing him to travel to, meet, and recruit potential ministry leaders from other Asian countries. He faithfully serves in the largest and capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu.
Alongside his work with CapMin, for over a decade, he has been a pastor at Bangnam Church and a home director for a children’s ministry in the town of Manahari. Since 2018, he has fulfilled the role of a national leader for Open Hands, a group that promotes savings group ministries among Christian families. In addition to that, Pastor Praja’s servant heart has also led him to serve as a senior advisor for the Pastor Association Nepal and as Chairman of CLC Nepal.
He sees God at work through his “good and fruitful ministry,” evidenced especially by the children impacted. The pastor has witnessed first-hand how the youth learn the Gospel then grow up to continue their own house fellowship, outreach, and evangelism. As disciples make more disciples, the ministry that began in his hometown continues to grow.
Pastor Praja earned a bachelor’s in theology from Jesus College in Kathmandu in 2012, before completing a graduate program at the Hetauda School of Management in Hetauda. Even today, Pastor Praja continues to find opportunities to grow his knowledge of Christ.
At the end of September and beginning of October of last year, he was a key organizer of CapMin’s Asia Recruiting and Training Conference in Kathmandu.
Pastor Praja’s summary of the conference was this: “The men were engaged during the entirety of the conference and many said that the theology of the ministry was the first time they were exposed to the specificity of the call to political leaders as found in Acts 9.”
Pastor Praja and his wife Seema have two biological children, a son and a daughter, and a total of 14 children they have adopted from the village where they reside. All in all, there are 18 members of the Praja household! As a family they grow in their faith together through prayers twice a day, Bible quizzes, and singing Christian songs.
Today, as CapMin’s Global Director of Asia, the pastor’s goals are clear. He seeks to help “political leaders understand who the true, everlasting leader ultimately is.” The Holy Spirit is leading him to provide Bible-based training for future leaders, both in provincial and national government and in the local community. As a group, they discuss the topics Pastor Kumar’s Bible teaching brings up. They worship together and encourage one another.
His hope is not only that more people will be touched by the Gospel, but also that, in Nepal and across Asia, Christ’s Church will be established.
“There are some Christian leaders in the political parties in Asia but they are forgetting God–without the church’s help or support. Thus, this ministry is highly beneficial to their spiritual development, and the Bible study [allows for growth in their] relationship with God,” he says.
There are other barriers to ministry in the countries he serves, often in the form of persecution from laws, culture, or other religions. Many Asian countries are Hindu or Muslim, and which are at best, resistant to the Gospel. The prevailing culture gives many “hard hearts,” but the pastor is not deterred. Often, conversations about Christ are held in private. Leaders who are Christian worship secretly when they openly express their love for Christ.
Despite the challenges, Pastor Kumar has a smile on his face as he trusts in the Lord. “There is no need to worry, no need to fear because the Gospel is living,” he professes. No matter what challenges he faces or blessings he receives, he knows God will see him through it all.
