Nations Are Blessed When Political Leaders
Study the Word of God

In a spirited and substantive live interview, Ralph Drollinger, President and Founder of Capitol Ministries, talked with renowned radio host Frank Sontag about how the United States benefits greatly from political leaders who routinely and regularly study God’s Word.

The host of the popular Monday-Friday, drive-time, Los Angeles-area Frank Sontag Show came out of the gate asking Drollinger why Capitol Ministries takes the Word of God to political leaders.

“We are all about expositing the Word of God to make disciples,” Drollinger told him.

“We believe it is important for the leaders of nations to meet together regularly to study God’s Word.

“There is something transcendent about the Word of God; its self-proclamation is that it is living and active so when you lead a Bible study in an office, or you have an opportunity in addition to that to teach a legislator or cabinet member an hour a week and really exposit the Word of God to them, and you see that they hunger and thirst for the Word, that brings some kind of transcendent blessing that is somewhat immeasurable to the whole of the nation.

“And I think we are seeing that in America. I’m not saying that is all because of me, but we need good Bible teachers around all of our political leaders.

“And to your point, it just hasn’t been happening in D.C.

“We’ve got a lot of cotton candy ministries where there is a lot of fluff, but the real blocking and tackling of making disciples requires a rigorous, weekly discipline of expositing the Word of God and applying it in a custom sense to the life of your audience.”

Drollinger sat down with his broadcaster pal, Sontag, on Thursday, July 26 to discuss recent developments and upcoming events at Capitol Ministries.

• After more than a year in the making, the handsome four-volume set, Oaks in Office, is available for sale at capmin.org, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble booksellers.

The book contains 52 biblical essays, some of the best among the hundreds of Bible studies Drollinger has written specifically for political leaders over the past 21 years.

Using the stately, strong, and well-rooted oak tree as a metaphor for the mature-in-Christ Public Servant, the book’s objective is to shape the character and direction of the next generation of political leaders.

While written specifically for political leaders, the biblical essays are relevant to the husband, father, Sunday school teacher, and believer who wishes to grow in his faith and as a leader.

• The White House Cabinet Bible study is going strong and well-attended. In addition to the Cabinet study, Drollinger leads separate weekly Bible studies to U.S. Senators and Representatives in Washington, D.C.

• In early August, Capitol Ministries Regional Directors from around the world will attend a Capitol Ministries Conference before attending the Willow Creek Association’s two-day Global Leadership Summit in Chicago, Illinois.

• The holier-than-thou attitude that some Christians take regarding President Donald Trump is unwarranted. “Who are we to cast our own self-righteous standards on President Trump when we have sinned just as much,” Drollinger said. In addition, the standards set by the Bible for Church leaders are not the same as those for the leaders of the state, he said.

• What the Bible says about the institutional and influential separation of Church and State.

• Bible literacy is woefully low among Americans because pastors in many churches are preaching soft-ball, feel-good, cotton candy Christianity rather than teaching about the holiness of God and how believers need to conform to His righteousness.
