Rick Perry: CM’s Cabinet Bible Study shows Trump Administration’s Biblical Values
U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry praised Capitol Ministries’ weekly Bible study to Members of President Donald Trump’s White House Cabinet, saying they “send the message that this administration bases its life experiences on that, biblical values.”
Perry made his comments to Jenna Browder, correspondent for Christian Broadcasting Network News (CBN), in a taped video interview on Sept. 12. Click here to view to the full interview.
“There are a number of men and women on the Cabinet who have a Bible study every Wednesday morning,” Perry said. “It’s my understanding, it’s about the first time there’s been a Cabinet Bible study in Washington, D.C. — the Cabinet members come together in an organized way — in almost 100 years.”
Ralph Drollinger, President and Founder of Capitol Ministries, who birthed the Cabinet Bible study in the spring of 2017, has called it “the best Bible study that I’ve ever taught in my life; they are so teachable; they’re so noble; they’re so learned.”
Other Cabinet Members who attend and sponsor the study are Secretary of State Mike Pompeo; Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta; Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex M. Azar II; National Aeronautics and Space Administration Administrator Jim Bridenstine; Secretary of Health and Human Services, Ben Carson; Secretary of the Department of Education Betsy DeVos; Secretary of the Department of Agriculture Sonny Perdue; and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Vice President Mike Pence is a sponsor of the Cabinet study but has not yet attended. Every week, Drollinger gives President Trump a copy of his written Bible study.
Perry said when he was the governor of Texas, and people were critical of public officials being open about their faith, he would respond:
“I said, ‘You know, I try to be instructed biblically and which one of the Ten Commandments do you not like?”
Perry also praised President Trump for his leadership on faith.
“It starts at the top from the standpoint of this is a president that’s not afraid to stand up and say, ‘Hey, I’m not perfect, but I know the guy that is perfect and I’m trying to follow those instructions,” Perry said.
“That’s a really good place to start from my perspective.”
The White House Cabinet Bible study has been led by Drollinger since early 2017, shortly after Cabinet Secretaries were named.
Before assuming their new posts, several White House Cabinet Members were congressmen and had attended either the Bible study Drollinger has led to U.S. Representatives since 2010, or to U.S. Senators since 2015. Many asked Drollinger to birth a study for the White House Cabinet.
Drollinger is an expository, exegetical, Evangelical pastor. In weekly studies, he teaches one book of the Bible, one verse at a time. The studies are in-depth and thorough; one book could take a year to complete.
Every week, Drollinger also distributes written Bible studies that help the believer grow in faith; provide custom applications to the life of a public leader; and investigate current social issues through a biblical lens, among other topics.
Ralph and Danielle Drollinger established Capitol Ministries in 1996 with a ministry to California legislators at the Sacramento, Capitol. Since then CM has planted ministries to legislators in 43 states; three separate studies in Washington, D.C.; and in 24 foreign nations.
Following the example of the apostle Paul, Capitol Ministries’ mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ in the political arena of the world in keeping with the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
In Acts 9:15, God said Paul’s mission was to:
“…bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel.”
Kings and leaders of nations were identified to be reached because of the great influence they have in the world. Through their impact, many more will come to know Him and have eternal life.
