Bhutan Leadership

Tshagay Dorji

Local Government
Ministry Leader, Bhutan
As a Ministry Leader in Bhutan, Tshagay Dorji disciples local, state, and federal public servants.

Prior to joining Capitol Ministries, his work involved helping run a Bible training center for pastors, and a youth ministry among high school and college students.

Teaching the Bible to church members and the youth alike has served as preparation for what the pastor does today. “Bible studies are important to political leaders because through it they learn how to make right decisions,” he explains, “and lead the country in the right direction with Christian values and in truth.” His ministry is centered in the capital city of Thimphu.

Through establishing friendly relations with political leaders, the pastor hopes to share the Gospel, disciple, and have in-depth Bible study sessions. Ultimately, the more he shares God’s Word, the more he hopes to witness the effects of biblically mature leaders on the kingdom of Bhutan.

Currently, Christians in Bhutan make up less than 5% of the population. Believers in the country face persecution through cultural ostracization and legal prosecution and penalty. Nonetheless, Pastor Dorji is committed to sharing Scripture with whoever is willing to hear.

Dorji has earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce. He has three sons and a daughter.

The pastor’s partnership with Capitol Ministries was a blessing to his ministry. After engaging with youth ministry for so many years, Dorji wanted to follow God’s guidance to reach an often-neglected people group. “There was nobody to reach out to the political leaders in the country,” he reflects. “Many Christian leaders are afraid.”

Through prayer, and the support of those in his community and internationally, Pastor Dorji believes there will be no obstacle too great for God in this ministry. Instead, he hopes to see the hearts of many political leaders opened to Christ and biblical change to begin in the Kingdom of Bhutan.
