Randy Covington
Director, North AmericaBefore assuming his current responsibilities as North America Director, Dr. Covington led a weekly Bible study in the Alaska State Capitol for two years. His commitment to ministering to public servants was demonstrated not only through his teaching but also by the extraordinary journey he made each week. Traveling approximately 850 miles from his home in Anchorage to the State Capitol in Juneau, he flew two hours each way to disciple Alaska’s legislators.
Juneau is one of only two U.S. state capitals inaccessible by road from the rest of the state—the other being Honolulu, Hawaii—making travel possible only by air or sea. Despite the demanding commute and Alaska’s harsh winter conditions, Dr. Covington remained steadfast in his commitment to bringing God’s Word to political leaders. The weekly Bible study, graciously sponsored by Senator George Rauscher (District O, Sutton), regularly brought together approximately 20 participants, including legislators, legislative staff, aides, and leaders of state agencies.
Upon Dr. Covington’s transition to his new responsibilities as North America Director, Pastor Jonathan Fisher, his longtime ministry partner in Juneau, succeeded him as Alaska State Ministry Leader and now leads the weekly Bible study in the Alaska State Capitol.
Prior to assuming his current role, Dr. Covington served as Executive Director/Treasurer of the Alaska Baptist Resource Network from 2016 until his retirement in the fall of 2025. Earlier in his ministry, he and his wife, Robin, served for 22 years as missionaries with the International Mission Board in Greece and Russia.
Dr. Covington earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Wayland Baptist University and holds both a Master of Religious Education and a Ph.D. in Administration from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Dr. Covington and Robin have two adult children and four grandchildren. With a lifelong passion for evangelism and discipleship, he prays that the ministry of Capitol Ministries will continue transforming the lives of elected officials through the teaching of God’s Word.
“I pray that through greater exposure to God’s Word, elected officials who do not have a relationship with Christ will come to know Him, and those who are already believers will dig deeper into the Scriptures and base their decisions on its truth.”
